What We Do In the Shadows to Get Six Episode TV Spin-Off

Holy wow! There’s some great new news out today from What We Do In the ShadowsFlight of the Concords,  and the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok director, Taika Waititi, as it was announced his vampire mockumentary would be getting a six episode TV spin-off.

According to the folks at Entertainment Weekly, the show is currently to be titled, Paranormal Event Response Unit, and will focus on two police officers, Mike and Karen, who specialize in paranormal activities. At this point its unclear who will star in the show or if it’ll bring back actors Jemaine Clement, Jonathan Brugh, and Ben Fransham to reprise their roles as flat-sharing vampires who are just trying to get by in the world.

What We Do In the Shadows centered around vampires Viago, Deacon, and Vladislav who are trying to navigate their way through modern life in New Zealand which has them confronting everyday struggles like paying rent, chores, getting into clubs, and overcoming daily flatmate drama.

It was previously announced that WWDITS would get a sequel spin-off that focused on the pack of Werewolves introduced in the movie which was to be titled, We’re Wolves. At this point it’s unclear if the TV spin-off is meant to replace the werewolves sequel or if it’s in addition to. We’re hoping for the later because this is definitely a universe where some bigger world building through sequels would be very, very welcome. And really, the bigger question is whether or not they’ll bring back Stu.

So what are your thoughts? Are you ready for an onslaught of vampire/werewolves sequel or just the TV show? Do you think they should spin-off anything from the original movie or was it perfect as it was? If you still haven’t seen it and are interested, you can stream it through Amazon Video or buy the DVD here, but if you have seen it, just how excited are you over this news?
