Vin Diesel is back again teasing the crap out of us with his potential role in the upcoming film, The Inhumans. We would obviously LOVE this to be true and with all likely hood, it probably will be as this has been going on for a long time. Many speculate, however, that because he already took the role of Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy, that some how disqualifies himself from the position. He does not agree and neither do we.
For those who have seen Guardians, you are well aware that Groot has one line and one line only (for the most part) in the entire movie. “I am Groot,” is the line delivered by the character in a variety of different, yet oddly expressive ways in the film, but it’s because of this that opens the door for Vin Diesel to take on the much rumored role of Black Bolt, king of the Inhumans.
According to an I09 interview with Vin Diesel, he explained, “I can totally be something [else] with Marvel. I think playing that role only makes Marvel that much more excited and me having my experience with Marvel, seeing how great they were, makes me more excited. We’ve heard a lot of talk about Marvel wanting to have me play a character that doesn’t have my voice. So my voice is used for Groot and my presence is used for the other character.”
For those of you who are aware, the character of Black Bolt does talk. His voice causes a massively destructive shock-wave that’s strong enough to level a mountain, so basically, Black Bolt is mostly mute. This makes it the perfect second role for Diesel. In Guardians, you here is voice, but his character is 100% CGI whereas in the Inhumans, we could see Diesel, but he wouldn’t be allowed to speak. It’s hilarious for all of those in the know making it the perfect little inside joke and, because this rumor has been around for so long and been hinted at so many times, we’re guessing it’s actually a done deal.
Diesel has not just been hinting at, but he’s been insisting for a long time that he will be playing Black Bolt, which is why we’re thinking that he signed that contract when he was in talks for Groot. We’re guessing that his negotiations and contract included the roles for both characters and is one of the reasons why we didn’t immediately buy into the now mostly debunked Inhumans cancellation story that seemed to run rampant this weekend.
Whether any of that is true or not, because we have ZERO sources to confirm or deny that, we fully support this idea. What do you think though, is having Vin Diesel play two roles, even in this capacity, something that you’d rather not see or are you excited to see him lead the Inhumans while continuing on with his galactic companions on the Milano?
