The folks behind Marvel Studio’s have a seriously amazing track record when it comes to casting actors to play their comic book counter parts. From the likes of Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, and Mark Ruffalo for the big screen version of the Avengers, they’ve also cast more refined and seasoned talent like Robert Redford, Michael Douglas, Anthony Hopkins, and Renee Russo for their films.
When it comes to the smaller screen, they’ve done a great job casting their Netflix series with promising up and comers like Charlie Cox, Kristen Ritter, Michael Colter, and Finn Jones. The actors are by no means minor league, but they don’t exactly have the resume that their big screen cohorts have, that is, until now.
It was announced to day at the New York Comic Con, during Marvel’s panel, that actress extraordinaire, Sigourney Weaver, would be joining the cast of the upcoming Netflix series, The Defenders. Not only is Weaver joining the cast, but apparently she’s set to play the big bad in the series, which sounds absolutely amazing.
While it’s unknown what character Weaver will be portraying, this is extremely huge news. Currently Weaver has been a big part of the runaway hit, Scream Queens, on Fox, but rumors started floating around last week that she had been recently seen in talks with Marvel and now we know why.
The Defenders is currently set to hit Netflix sometime in 2017.Follow Us:
