In X-Men related news, today the franchise debuted the official synopsis for their upcoming film, X-men: Apocalypse. The synopsis gives an overview and a little insight into the motivations of the movies titular villain, Apocalypse.

According to the release, “Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign.”

Well, alright.

That basically sounds a lot like what we were expecting. It was announced quite a while ago that Fassbender’s Magneto would in fact be one of Apocalypse’s Four Horsemen along with Alexandra Shipp’s Storm, Ben Hardy’s Angel/Arch-Angel, and Oliva Munn’s Psylocke.

This film seems as though it’ll be a fairly straightforward good guys vs. bad guys story and while we’d love to see them at least play with some of the alternate timeline ideas from the comic’s classic Age of Apocalypse run, we’re guessing that it comes a bit too close to their proceeding Days of Future Past film in which we see our heroes travel back in time in order to change horrifying future events.

So what do you think? Do you Apocalypse will deliver us the character that many of us have been wanting to see on screen since forever or do you think it’ll be a fairly different incarnation of the classic Marvel villain. As always, let us know what you think in the comments section below.

Marvel’s X-Men: Apocalypse is set to hit theaters May 27th, 2016.

Also, here’s the full synopsis for your reading pleasure:

“Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshiped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.”
