Last night, during the latest episode of Gotham, Fox aired a two part trailer for it’s upcoming revival of The X-Files and based off what we saw, we’re guessing that fans who were put off by 2008’s dudbuster, The X-Files: I Want to Believe, will be happy to see their old friends Mulder and Scully back in their FBI duds aiming flashlights into the shadows.
Originally having premiered in 1993, The X-Files dramatizations of alien abduction lore, urban legends, conspiracy theories, coupled with constant shipping* opportunities kept fans on the edge of their seats for 9 seasons (and two mediocre movies). In 2002 Fox pulled the plug on the award winning show, thereby leaving a deep, dark, and unfillable void in fan boys and girls hearts around the globe.
Since then, all of show-runner Chris Carter’s paranoid fantasies have come true: drones fly over major cities, surveillance runs rampant, and distrust for authority has reached a boiling point which gives the show plenty of fodder for an explosive return.
In the first half of the trailer, Mulder and Scully appear to have gone their separate ways giving hopeless romantics the opportunity to re-ship* the dynamic duo when the series returns. The trailer also features a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it appearance by Mitch Pileggi’s beloved character, FBI Assistant Director, Walter Skinner. The second half of the trailer ends with a hint at the return of the cigarette smoking man, who was last seen burned down to his skeleton in the series finale leaving fans to wonder exactly how he’s making his return.
Also, we found the video below on YouTube which has both parts of the two part trailer stitched together for your viewing pleasure. You’re welcome.
The miniseries debuts on Sunday, January 24, 2016 on Fox.
