News has been coming in fast this week on the upcoming new installment of the Hellraiser series, currently titled, Hellraiser: Judgement. Initially the cat was let out of the bag by none other than Nightmare on Elm Street alum, Heather Langenkamp, who in an interview with Scaretissue.com, mentioned that she was cast in a small cameo roll, but today the folks at Bloody Disgusting confirmed that the film also had a director in FX and makeup guy, Gary Tunnicliffe.
For many this was big news as it wasn’t expected that a new installment was in the works. In fact, initially there were rumors of Clive Barker himself coming back to work on a reboot of the series, but as of now, that doesn’t appear to be the case and Clive Barker isn’t the only one who isn’t coming back.
Bloody Disgusting also reported that Pinhead veteran, Douglas Bradley, will also not return to the franchise and that director Tunnicliffe has already found his guy. Apparently Bradley had taken issue with a non-disclosure agreement that he was asked to sign and his refusal to do so is what lead the director to seek out a new actor, who is as of yet, remained unnamed. Tunnicliffe told Bloody Disgusting that the new actor is, “a classically trained stage and film actor who brings a great physical presence and more than a hint of Peter Cushing and Ralph Fiennes. I can’t wait to get him bound in leather, gridded up and in front of the camera and on screens!”
The film is currently in production and at this point it sounds like it’s set to hit theaters sometime in 2017.
