Nerdist’s Jessica Chobot Stars in Short Online Metroid Film

We don’t know about you, but the idea of a full on movie based on the classic Nintendo game, Metroid, seems like a pretty solid idea. It has the potential to be a masterfully done sci-fi epic, yet the constant fear always looms as video game movies tend to almost universally suck.

While certain exceptions that prove the rule do indeed exist, we think that Metroid has the most potential of any video game series. Fortunately, we’ve been given a little glimpse into the what-could-be, as Rainfall Films just released a short online film featuring the games primary protagonist, Samus Aran, as played by Nerdist News’, Jessica Chobot.

While the film is somewhat slow and dark, featuring very little in the way of action. It does, however, encompass the idea of solitary space exploration, which is definitely an interesting foreshadow into the sci-fi potential that this film could have, especially if it were given an Iron Man sized budget.

If you’re an absolute sci-fi geek, this is definitely worth a watch. The effects are definitely campy, but Chobot clearly has some fun with this it really only serves as sort of a proto-proof-of-concept. We’d love to see this actually get realized, especially if they could somehow bring to life Mother Brain, but what do you think? Are you pro or anti Metroid? Would you watch a full length film (assuming they were given a budget)? As always, watch the film and let us know what you think in the comments section below!
