Miss Martian is Newest Addition to Supergirl Cast!

Holy crap! Holy crap! HOLY CRAP!!! When it was initially announced that Supergirl was headed over the CW we didn’t think that we could be more excited. Then we caught wind of a massive FOUR show crossover featuring all of CW’s DC properities AND a Flash/Supergirl MUSICAL crossover. Now we’re hearing that they’ve gone and cast fan favorite Young Justice star and Teen Titan founder, Miss Martian.

Miss Martian will be played by Sharon Leal (Dreamgirls, Grimm), but we’re not currently sure how she’ll be introduced into the show. Miss Martian is generally portrayed as the niece of Martian Manhunter, who is of course played by David Harewood on the show, and is a regular member of the Teen Titans, a superhero team comprised of teenage heroes. Leal, at 43, is a little outside the range to play a teenager or niece to Harewood’s Manhunter (who’s 51), so clearly there’s a different angle being taken with the character.

On the show, J’onn J’onzz (Martian Manhunter) is said to be the last surviving member of the Green Martian species which were eradicated by the subterranean White Martians. M’gann M’orzz (Miss Martian) is traditionally a White Martian, however, she chooses to use her shape shifting abilities to appear as the less hostile green species. We’re interested to see if they change the relationship between J’onzz and M’orzz (husband and wife? College rivals?), but despite any changes that they make, we’re super excited to see her brought to the small screen as she’s easily one of my favorite Young Justice characters.

Right now we don’t know when during the season M’gann will make her debut appearance, but we’re hoping that she’ll be a longstanding cast member and permanent member of the team!
