In a press release put out today by Marvel Studios, it looks like Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will be getting a new, yet familiar face, in what seems to be somewhat of a mystery role.
According to the release, Powers Boothe (Sin City, Deadwood, Nashville) has joined the cast in what is listed to be a reoccurring role with unspecified allegiances. This isn’t Boothe’s first stint in the MCU as he originally appeared in the first Avengers film as a member of the World Security Council.
Boothe will play a character called, Gideon Malik, and according to the head of Marvel Television, Jeph Leob, “Gideon is incredibly menacing and in him we have a character that even the stone-cold Grant Ward would fear,” said Executive Producer/Head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb. “Only someone of Powers’ caliber could deliver the type of ominous and powerful performance we needed.”
So what exactly does that mean? Who knows. Will this be a reprisal of his role from The Avengers or is he playing someone completely different. We won’t know for sure until he eventually shows up, but what do you think about the casting? Agents has been particularly good this season, but will another cast member be one cast member too many? As always, let us know what you think in the comments section below!
