Marvel Gets Their Squirrel Girl: New Warriors Gets Full Cast Announcement

Coming straight from the mouth of THR, today we’re finally getting the full casting announcement for Marvel’s upcoming New Warriors project set to air on ABC’s Freeform network. Among the biggest casting bits is that of the new Squirrel Girl, which has had fans rabidly debating their top picks for years! Most commonly, fan favorite picks ranged from Pitch Perfect star, Anna Kendrick, to break-out Stranger Things fan favorite, Barb (known in real life as Shannon Purser).

While allegedly Purser was in the running for the character, ultimately Marvel has opted for a relatively as-of-yet unknown actress in Milana Vayntrub, who, as of the point, is best known for her reoccurring role as “Lily Adams” in a string of AT&T commercials. She’s also had small roles in Silicon Valley, This is Us, and she’s credited as “Subway Rat Woman” in 2016’s Ghostbusters reboot.

As for the rest of the casting, here’s what we’re looking at:

Mister Immortal: Derek Theler (Babby Daddy, Shark Killer)

Night Thrasher: Jeremy Tardy (War Dogs, Bone Tomahawk, Dear White People)

Microbe: Matthew Moy (2 Broke Girls, Steven Universe)

Debrii: Kate Comer (Hello, My Name is Doris, The Comeback)

Speedball: Calum Worthy (Disney’s Austin & Ally, Daydream Nation)

It certainly seems to be an interesting cast that features a wide variety of lesser-knowns including fan favorite, Speedball, who in the comics was partially responsible for the start of the Civil War storyline, will now be played be a Disney Channel alumni.

It was announced last spring that New Warriors would go into production slated for sometime in 2018 with a 10 episode arc. New Warriors will be ABC Freeform’s second Marvel TV show following the upcoming release of Cloak & Dagger. THR quotes Marvel Head of TV’s, Jeff Loeb, as having said, “We’re so lucky to have assembled such a diverse and incredibly talented cast. We can’t wait for the fans to see what’s in store when we unleash these iconic characters into the world!”

Well Jeff, neither can we. Neither. Can. We.
