While it’s been the subject of many internet rumors for months now, today the folks over at Lucas Film made it official and announced that comedian, Donald Glover, will be the new Lando Calrissian in the upcoming Han Solo-solo film.
The report comes straight from StarWars.com, which explains, “Lucasfilm announced today that Donald Glover, an acclaimed actor, award-winning writer, and Grammy-nominated artist, will be playing the part of Lando Calrissian in the still-untitled Han Solo Star Wars film, helmed by directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.”
It had been previously announced that Alden Ehrenreich was cast to the play the part of a young Han Solo, but online support for Glover to take over the role originally helmed by Billy Dee Williams grew like wildfire similar in the way that it did when Glover suggested that he was interested in playing the part of Peter Parker in the rebooted Amazing Spider-Man series before the role fell onto Andrew Garfield. The fan support for Glover in the role led to the creation of the character, Miles Morales, who would become the new Spider-Man in Marvel’s Ultimate Universe and has been voiced by Glover in several animated renditions of the character. Glover was also recently cast for Marvel’s upcoming, Spider-Man: Homecoming, and can be currently seen on FX’s new hit show, Atlanta.
In a statement given to StarWars.com, directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller wrote, “We’re so lucky to have an artist as talented as Donald join us. These are big shoes to fill, and an even bigger cape, and this one fits him perfectly, which will save us money on alterations. Also, we’d like to publicly apologize to Donald for ruining Comic-Con for him forever.”
While there’s currently no official release date for the currently untitled Han Solo film, it is set to come out sometime in 2018.Follow Us:
