Guardians of the Galaxy 2 Casts Pom Klementief as Mantis

Last yesterday we started catching word that Marvel had cast Pom Klementief in some kind of mystery role for the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy 2. Today, the folks over at Deadline are reporting that she’ll play none other than Mantis, a character who has both been a member of the Guardians and the Avengers teams.

In the comics, Mantis is a half-Vietnamese half-German daughter Gustav Brandt, otherwise known as the villain, Libra. Mantis is predominately a master martial artist although in later renditions takes on additional powers which include superhuman reflexes, the ability to control her body including healing, and psychic empathy.

Klementief is French actress best known for her role in Spike Lee’s remake of Old Boy along with a handful of French films. Currently her role in the movie has not been made official, Deadline explains that, “Klementieff’s role is being kept under wraps for now, but we’re told she’ll be playing the superhero Mantis. Introduced on the pages of Avengers #112 in 1973 and created by Steve Englehart and Don Heck, Mantis is the half-Vietnamese, half-German daughter of the antihero Libra, and a martial arts expert with psychic abilities and ties to the alien Kree race.”

So, we’ll see how this pans out, but what do you think; are you excited to see Mantis show up in Guardians 2? How do you think she’ll fit in to the grand scheme of the Marvel Universe? As always, let us know what you think in the comments section below.
