Wow, Gotham is laying it on thick this season. While fans are little wishy washy as to what ‘lead’ villain, Theodore Galavan, actually has to bring to the table, it appears that he will be the entryway for a lot of game changing events and character introductions. In addition to that, hints at some new and upcoming characters sound like they’ll breath new life into old, previously dispatched characters.
Tonight’s episode of Gotham let us in on the fact that Theo Galavan is actually a member of the Order of St. Dumas. For those of you comic book readers, you’ll recognize the name in conjunction with the character of Azrael, the lead warrior for the religiously based order and quazi-ally to Batman.
In an exclusive interview with executive producer, John Stephens, the folks at Comicbook.com where able to glean some pretty forthcoming information about what we’ll see in upcoming episodes of Gotham. According to Stephens, “We will be going deeper into the Order of St. Dumas over the next run of episodes, and it will continue to play an evolving role for the rest of the season and yes, we wouldn’t be telling an Order of St. Dumas story without also intending to tell an Azrael story. Just keep watching.”
The show also went so far as to introduce a fully costumed version of the known Batman villain, Firefly, who has ties to Selina Kyle and is part of Galavan’s plot against the Wayne family.
In today’s episode of DC All Access, a YouTube channel dedicated to DC related news, several of Gotham’s cast members dropped some interesting information in regard to Hugo Strange’s roll in upcoming episodes. They alluded to his potential ability to bring back the dead and suggested that we could see the return of previously offed characters. This could tie directly back to show-runner, Bruno Heller’s, recent comments in regard to the return of Jerome ‘The Joker’ Valeska, who was killed in an episode a few weeks back. Robin Lord Taylor, who plays the Penguin on the show, actually suggested the return of Fish Mooney, although it sounded more like a misdirectional what-if. In addition to that, names like Mr. Freeze and the Mad Hatter also get dropped.
Well, Gotham is clearly not pulling any punches and we’re crazily excited to see how the show continues to play things out, but what do you think? Are you in love with what they’re doing or do you think they’re biting off more than they can chew? As always, let us know what you think in the comments section below!
